Safety Improvements on Route 44, Avon, CT - ConnDOT The purpose of this $18 million project was to provide safety and traffic operational improvements to a highly dangerous stretch of roadway. Roadway characteristics which contributed to safety problems included high speed traffic, steep grades, and sharp curves. Garg provided construction engineering and inspection services to this project which included reconstruction of 1.4 miles of roadway to accommodate four 11’ lanes and 8’ shoulders, softening of curves, construction of a textured median, retaining wall, guiderail, upgrade of the drainage system, and relocation of overhead utilities.
