I-84 Platform Illumination, Hartford, CT - ConnDOT

The purpose of this $3.4 million project is the replacement of highway illumination under the platform on Interstate 84 (Hartford), expansion of the existing platform electrical room and the replacement of lighting conduit along the I-84 Aetna Viaduct between Laurel Street and Asylum Street in Hartford.  Building work for the Air Exhaust West Building consists of the electrical room expansion.  Work will include concrete, masonry/split face block walls, structural steel, metal roof deck with protective membrane, steel door and frame, glazing, interior finishes, plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems and lighting. Garg is providing inspection services and construction survey.

Additional project tasks included:

• Inspection of night operations
• Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) in a highly congested area in downtown Hartford
• Creation of an alternate MPT plan to address needs in the field, including work at an adjacent project (Aetna Viaduct Rehabilitation)
• Supervision of a Lead Health Protection Program for the removal of lead paint
• Field engineering of alternate lighting locations and fixtures to achieve required clearances
• Document control using the SiteManager system
