Southwest LRT Project, Denver - RTD

 

The Southwest corridor light rail line is a double-track system running from I-25 and Broadway Station to Mineral Avenue and South Santa Fe.  The project involved design, furnishing and installation of a fully functional automatic block wayside signal system along the entire light rail alignment from South Broadway to Mineral Avenue.

 

GCS provided construction inspection services for the signal system involving testing, preparation of reports, and commissioning of the system.  The signal system consisted of wayside signals, switch machines, train wayside connection cabling (both main and tail), impedance bonds, relay cases, cut-section AC track circuits, solid state logic control indications, electric locks, etc.

 

The major tasks of the project included:

  • Checking of drawings and circuits of signal system
  • Field verification of data and maintaining records pertaining to safety
  • Supervision of the installation of signaling equipment to ensure quality, conformation to the drawings and specifications, and proper installation procedures
  • Testing and measuring of the circuits, equipment, and materials to ensure proper and safe operation
  • Testing, inspection, and commissioning of complete signal system
  • Preparation of punch list items, non-conformation report and action taken reports
  • Preparation of periodical inspection / status reports to keep authorities informed about progress and special developments which may have affected the completion of the project.
