West Haven / Orange Commuter Rail Station Site Selection - ConnDOT

This planning project required environmental assessment and conceptual /schematic design services for the site selection for the proposed new commuter rail station for Metro North Railraod.  The possible sites were located in West Haven and Orange.  GCS was responsible for conceptual design services for the signal, communication, and electrification systems for the two alternative sites.

The major tasks of the project included:

• Assessment of the site to determine the extent of modification of the existing signal, communication and electrification systems for each alternative for the site
• Planning and field reviews of the existing systems
• Establishing basic design criteria
• Developing the extent of system modifications required to permit access from Track 1 to Track 5 and the inbound (westbound) platform
• Identifying potential problems with construction sequencing / phasing and activation of the sub-systems of the new station
• Developing a list of conceptual modifications for the subsystems at the adjacent Milford and New Haven stations
