GCS is responsible for the biennial safety inspection (NBIS) of several highway bridges over waterways
that require underwater inspections across Connecticut. The inspections are performed in accordance with
AASHTO, National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), and the CTDOT Bridge Inspection Manual.

The major tasks of the project include:

Plan, Schedule and Coordinate each bridge inspection with the prime consultant, CTDOT, local governments, and
local and state police forces

Perform a Routine or In-depth Inspection of each bridge to determine the structure’s physical condition
-
100% hands-on inspection of any fracture critical members and/or fatigue prone details of the bridge
-
Document the deficiencies of the bridge with field notes, measurements, and photographs
-
Take soundings to monitor channel bottom activity and scour
-
Update Condition Evaluation and Inventory Data

Prepare Maintenance Recommendations, as required
-
Compile all information and create a final report
